FAQ

Wow! I found a 3 letter .com for sale for $1000, what a steal! Should I buy it?
This domain is likely hijacked, which is why the hijacker is trying to get rid of it so cheap. It’s probably a good idea to get a Silver membership on Domain Tools to check whois history. In short, don’t buy it.

You said DNForum was a big waste of money, is that really true?
I actually said the exclusive membership is a big waste of money. A Platinum membership can prove to be very valuable when selling your domains. The DNForum marketplace is very active and frequented by many big buyers. The Platinum membership and DNForum is definately recommended.

Is it true .com is the only extension worth investing in?
It is true .com domains are most likely to receive natural type-in traffic, however that doesn’t mean other extensions are not worth investing in. Extensions such as .net, .org, .info, .us, .co.uk, .de, can be very worthwile investing in solid keyword domains.

Is it required to list my address and phone number in whois?
It’s required to list your contact details, not necessarily your home address, and a phone number to reach you at, in case someone wanted to contact you regarding your domain. Alternatively you could use a whois protection service. Most registrars offer this, including GoDaddy, NameCheap, DomainSite, Moniker, DynaDot, among others.

What is the difference between a push and a transfer?
A push is done internally through the registrar, and is usually a free change of ownership (unless you use Register.com). A transfer is when a domain changes registrars, and costs a fee as you’re essentially renewing the domain, but at another registrar.
